I’ll admit it. When we launched Glass Spider Publishing one year ago, I didn’t expect much to happen. At least not at first. I figured I’d spend a lot of time blogging about the things I’d learned plodding in the mire of the self-publishing world, building up a fair amount of SEO mojo, maybe landing one client every few months. What I didn’t expect was for the business to blow up the way it has.
One year later, we have a total of 15 publications under our belt and a half dozen more currently in the works. Four of our authors have received TV and radio coverage, and numerous others have been written about in local press outlets. Our books are available on the shelves of a growing number of independent bookstores throughout Ogden and Salt Lake City, and globally via Amazon. What’s even better is that our books are generating positive reviews from readers across the country.
The idea to create a small publishing company was one I’d been tossing around in my head for a long time—more a pipe dream than anything else, a way I could ultimately achieve the goal of doing something I'm truly passionate about for a living. What I didn’t count on was the discovery that by chasing my own dream, I could help many others realize theirs too.
Now it’s one year later. Glass Spider Publishing has grown from a two-person endeavor (me and my wife, Jane) to a six-person operation. We have established a strong and supportive network of writers and booksellers, and I only expect that to continue to grow and flourish. Who knows where we’ll be in another year? As much as I can’t wait to find out, the real joy is in the journey.
To those of you who trusted in a small, unproven publisher with your written works: you have our respect and gratitude. To those of you still thinking about it: you have our encouragement. We’ll be here when you’re ready to take the next big step.
Glass Spider Publishing is a hybrid micropublisher located in Ogden, Utah. It was founded in 2016 by writer Vince Font to publish and promote the works of underrepresented authors.
